Prof. 정 주 철
Starting from 1954, College of Engineering at PNU has a proud and brilliant history to mark its 70th anniversary this year. Built on a solid foundation in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, (Mechanical Engineering), Architectural Engineering, Textile Engineering (Organic Material System Engineering), Chemical Engineering (Chemical Engineering), and Civil Engineering (Civil Engineering,Architectural Engineering), it has been confirmed as a Variety of Majors, including Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Shipbuilding Engineering (Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering), Metal Engineering, Ceramics Engineering (Material Engineering), Polymer Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Urban Planning and Engineering, and Architecture, and Semiconductor Majors.
In recent years, Pusan National University’ College of Engineering has achieved high level of research results in major fields such as AI, semiconductor, automobile, carbon neutral technology, smart city and data science, attracting attention at home and abroad. These achievements have been made possible through close cooperation with industries, as well as the efforts of excellent faculty and students.
The key direction for the development of Pusan National University’s College of Engineering toward the next 70 years can be suggested in several aspects:
Strengthen close cooperation with industries: Through cooperation with industries, more efforts should be made to strengthen hands-on education and research, and to cultivate talented people with practical skills. In addition, we need to develop customized education programs to meet the needs of industries so that they can contribute to the development of industries and communities.
Global empowerment: To become competitive from an international perspective, we need to expand international insights and networks by strengthening international cooperation with overseas universities and companies and by activating international exchange programs. We also need to focus on enhancing our understanding of the various languages and cultures required in the global market.
Supporting Innovative Research Activities: In keeping with the changes of the industry and society, research on new technologies such as AI, autonomous vehicles, and biotechnology should be actively promoted and supported. In addition, the focus should be on solving industrial problems and promoting the development of new technologies through industry-academia cooperation.
Introducing Creative and Flexible Education Methods: In order to develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills required in the future society, innovative and flexible education methods should be introduced and students' participation should be promoted. In addition, we need to create an environment where students can maximize their individual potential by respecting and supporting their diverse experiences and interests.
Based on this direction, Pusan National University’s College of Engineering will continue to grow and develop on its journey to the next 70 years.
Pusan National University’s College of Engineering is proud to cultivate innovative and creative talents who will lead the future, and we promise that we will continue to play our role as a global leader. We must constantly challenge ourselves with visions for the future, and join forces to develop the college in innovative and creative ways. We will make new achievements toward the next 70 years with continuous effort and passion. Thank you.
